A Mom's Guide to Self Care

It's been a while since I've written a blog post, which makes me a little sad because I truly love to write. It's therapeutic to me. I always feel like I have nothing to write about, but then I get going and I'm like SOMEBODY STOP ME! 

Taking care of myself is something that's always been important, but I feel like now that I'm a Mom, it's more than just important. It's essential in our surviving each day. That definitely sounds dramatic, but that's because it was meant to be. So how do I take time for myself while caring for two toddlers and running a business? Let me tell you.

Sleep. If this is shocking to you, you live under a rock. Everyone should be getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night, and some people need more. When the boys were waking up a few times a night, I was headed to bed around 8pm - lights out before 9p. Now that we've gotten a little more predictable on sleeping through the night, I can afford to stay up a little later. Also, if I'm feeling exhausted mid day, I'll lay down for 30 minutes or so to get a little recharge. I may or may not fall asleep but at least I took some time to relax. 

Food. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. I don't say no to sweets, but then again, I'm a firm believer that everything in moderation is just fine! I don't always make the best choices, but when I do feel my best when I've eating a lot of fruit and veggies.

Coffee, tea, wine. Every morning I get the boys their sippy cup of milk and a little bit of cereal to eat while we watch cartoons.... This is more for me than for them. I get to drink my first espresso and catch up on emails/social media for the day. I get 20-30 minutes of "me time" to start the day off right. I typically have a glass of wine each evening with Sean, it's a nice way to wind down and red wine is considered to be heart healthy!!!! Before bed, I always make a cup of sleepy time tea and bring it up to bed. I then sip on it while reading. 

Working out. I don't work out everyday. I don't work out every other day. I work out about 2 times a week. It feels good. Although I would probably benefit more if I did go a couple more times each week, for me, it works. I listen to the music I want, scroll through Instagram and catch up on emails/planning for the week... All while the boys run around and play with other kids at the childcare center. It's honestly amazing. 

Makeup. I may get shamed for writing this because it kind of goes against woman empowerment but I love to put my makeup on each day. I feel more confident and am probably more productive once it's on and the coffee is drank. Louie loves to watch me and help me put on my makeup.

Coborn's. I dislike grocery shopping. I don't want to do it with the boys and I don't want to do it without them. For my own sanity, I choose to order my groceries. The produce isn't perfect 100% of the time, but it comes pretty close.
