Growing up I don’t think that we ever had store bought play dough in the house - my mom always made it! I’m sure I wondered why we didn’t get that bright colored Play Doh but now I know why... The homemade stuff is just better. It’s easier to mold and it’s less stinky - plus when your kid eats it you know it’s all things from your kitchen.
I’ve made a number of batches now and I’m very happy with this recipe - it’s simple and the ingredients are minimal. I usually prep the measurements before and then I can let the boys help me dump it all in and help me color it with the food coloring!
1 Cup flour
1/2 Cup salt
1 Tablespoon cream of tarter
1 Cup water
2 Tablespoons oil
Mix dry ingredients together in a pan, add the other ingredients and heat over the stove on medium heat, stirring constantly.
After several minutes it will form a ball. Remove mixture from the pan and knead on a floured counter.
Let cool and store in an airtight container!
Enjoy this recipe with your littles.
